WARREN FELLOW
"My whole life is built around music."
He has been working like a madman for the last decade on his career. He has done well for himself as a techno dj, a musician and event organiser, but also as a enchanting personality he is embraced by many different genres of the electronic music industry. If you bump into him, you won't forget him.
Meet the one and only Larry, better known as Warren Fellow.
'till the break of dawn Warren spend in his studio, well before his breakthrough in 2006. "Before the ball started rolling I owned a sound and light rental company, and I have to say: It was a difficult period of hard work and many setbacks."
Besides running his rental company he worked on his dj and producer career, and released a fair amount of tracks. "I really did everything in my power to get to the point of becoming a full time artist. If you don't give all you've got, you won't succeed in this industry."
Warren's dream came true, but don't think that he leans back now these days. He constantly renews himself and still doing the same things he did 10 years ago to create that magic in the studio.
"After 6 or 7 hours of building a new track, I put down all the lights in the studio. All of them. In the dark I listen, and listen. Then I'm ready for the fine tuning phase. To create nice effects in the track, the transitions, the small wooshes, everything."
According to Larry, his life has became very simple. "Yes it really is, because now everything is built around music. But I have to say, making music or performing is just a small part of game in this era. You also need to make alot of podcasts, be active on twitter and other social media. This is really essential and an important marketing tool."
But It also has some disadvantages especially in clubs: "You see more and more people texting and twittering while standing on the dancefloor. You feel that alot of them are constantly distracted and not focussed on what happens in dj sets. That's really a pitty."
Under the name 'We Are Connected' Larry organises his own events wich sold out 4 times in a row. "I want everything to fall in it's place during 'We Are Connected'. From the fog machines to the line-up and sound technicians. I want that particulair synergy. It needs to be close to perfection. I can get so annoyed if I play somewhere where a bright beam like a construction light is shining on top of me. If I can't see the audience, I'm lost."
Creating that ultimate feeling of being together with his audience is the most important aspect for Larry during his perfomance. "Controlling the right symbioses of ambiance and music is a skill that you need to have as a dj.
That's the pure craft of our trade. And on top of that, you have to be willing to learn. Always."
Larry will attend as a speaker and mentor at Dancefair. A two days Dutch electronic music fair in the Jaarbeurs Utrecht for 6000 dj's, producer and other enthusiasts on the 11th & 12th of February.
"I won't be walking around there like a speaker or mentor, but as a electronic music lover like everyone else.
I want to see as much seminars possible myself to learn from. It's THE place for anyone who wants to develop themself as an artist or a producer."
We are happy Warren Fellow is on board!
